Amélie JODOIN

With an amused look at her environment, she is interested in the modification and transformation of existing images. Through the medium of painting, she creates polychrome paintings with playful and enigmatic universes from which a certain narrative framework emerges. The trickster, a mythical character who takes malicious pleasure in disorienting the public, is a personality with which I identify. Astonishment and surprise are sensations that I wish to trigger in the spectator.

In recent years, her artistic practice has been mainly directed towards the metamorphosis of the landscapes in which she finds herself. She questions the pictorial qualities of her environment: its colors, its composition, its textures, its objects. Strongly influenced by the concept of in situ art, she plays with the extraction of certain components of these landscapes and the addition of heterogeneous elements in them in order to present fictitious scenes based on reality, where anodyne objects of the everyday life are slipped in unexpectedly.

On the study of landscapes and the introduction of heterogeneous objects in them, through painting, Amélie Jodoin draws much of her inspiration from in situ art. With a bachelor's degree in scenography and visual and media arts from UQAM, she creates the instagram page @pourdespeanuts when she is not painting. A platform to participate in the artistic community in her free time, which allows to sell artists' works at the affordable price of 100$, while making their work visible.

From David Inshaw, Pierre Dorion, David Hockney, Claes Oldenburg's work is by far the one that influenced Jodoin in his current practice. While having a crush on the works of Stephanie Temma Hier.

Amélie will be featured in the annual Parle-moi d'amour Montréal auction in September, in support of @lesimpatients . She will have a possible outdoor exhibition project with Art Souterrain this fall.
